Evangelism in Armenia
Our Easter crusades in Armenia were held at a critical time for the Evangelical churches. A new law being debated in the government would confine the activities of evangelical churches to the few existing church buildings, thus making it almost impossible to evangelise outside of their churches.
LATE BREAKING UPDATE:
On Friday 15 May 2009 David received a phone call from one of our crusade organiZers updating us on the results of the April Armenia crusades.
After the crusade meetings government officials met with the organizing Armenian pastors. They had attended the crusade meetings and were delighted with what they saw and heard. They have promised to cancel the proposed new law which would have restricted the evangelicals and denied them permission to evangelise or hold meetings outside their churches or even rent buildings.
The government officials have also promised to support any application for David to return and rent halls and advertise – this means that we can go back next year and take the football stadium for a massive crusade! Please continue to pray for this project.
On Good Friday morning David was invited to speak to the nation on national TV and in the afternoon we held an open-air crusade in Stepanovan in the Central Square– several thousands gathered in the sun to hear the Gospel – and this was miracle, because the day before it was snowing heavily. For days the church had been fasting and praying for Spring weather – and that’s what God did – for that day only! Next day there was more snow!
We celebrated Easter with evangelism in Vanadzor and 5,000 crowded into the 4,000-seater sports arena! – People from the city and surrounding villages crammed every space. The following 2 days were in the capital city, Yerevan.
One businessman organised for national TV to broadcast three 30-minute recordings of our meetings and he has now agreed to sponsor and pay for prime-time on TV to broadcast our ‘Power of Faith’ evangelistic programs every week. Pray with us that the churches in Armenia will also have the faith to do the impossible and take that 25,000-seater stadium for evangelism next year!
